Herbert Knight (1896-1918)

An ongoing project to commemorate and research the lives of those who appear on war memorials and rolls of honour in the local area, who served in the military, or whose deaths were linked to conflict.

Biography

Herbert Knight was born in 1896, the son of Victor Knight and his wife Annie (née Hey).

At the time of the 1901 Census, the family was living at 134 Kaye Lane, Almondbury. By 1911, the had moved to 150 Ashes Common, Almondbury, below Castle Hill.

He died on 26 December 1918 aged 22 and was buried at All Hallows, Almondbury, on 30 December.

KNIGHT, HERBERT. Lance Corporal. 1/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Huddersfield. Lived 150 Long Ashes Lane, Almondbury, Huddersfield. Died from the effects of shell shock, 26.12.1918.
