Herbert Hinchcliffe (1897-1917)

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

HINCHCLIFFE, HERBERT. Corporal. No 241570. 2/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Henry Street, Huddersfield, 2.1.1897. Youngest son of the late Mr James Hinchliffe. Lived with his sister, Mrs Shaw, at 26 Grasscroft Road, Marsh. Employed as a postman at Golcar Post Office. Attended St. Aidan's Mission Church. Single. Enlisted 8.3.1916. Embarked for France in January, 1917. Killed in action at the Battle of Cambrai, 20.11.1917, aged 20 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated CAMBRAI MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
