Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

BOWER, HERBERT. Private. No SD/3889. 11th Royal Sussex Regiment. Formerly Army Cyclist Corps. Born Golcar. Had served in the South African War in the R.A.M.C. as a stretcher-bearer. Married, with three children. Had worked for four years as a porter at Crosland Moor Workhouse until leaving the district to take up a similar position at Worcester Workhouse. Enlisted in June 1915. Killed in action, 21.10.1916, aged 36 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated on the THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
