Hedley Shuttleworth (c.1885-1918)

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SHUTTLEWORTH, HEDLEY. Private. No 241097. 2/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Abbeysteads, Lancashire. Son of William and Isabel Shuttleworth, Chapel Lane Farm, Galgate, Lancaster. Husband of Elsie Eliza Jane Shuttleworth, of Badger Hey, Marsden. Attended Marsden Parish Church. Employed by Messrs Mallinsons, Spring Grove Mills, Linthwaite. Enlisted 14.4.1915. Embarked for France in January, 1917. Killed in action, 27.3.1918, aged 32 years. He was a stretcher-bearer engaged in carrying in wounded when he was hit by a bullet, death being instantenous. Has no known grave. Commemorated ARRAS MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
