Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

BAXTER, GERALD WILLIAM. 2nd Lieutenant. 10th Battalion Manchester Regiment. Son of Mr. W.K. Baxter, solicitor, of Netherton. Educated at Huddersfield College School. Before enlisting was studying economics at Huddersfield Technical College. Was an enthusiastic football and tennis player and a member of the Technical College football club and the Netherton Tennis Club. Enlisted in the Artists' Rifles Cadet Battalion. Commissioned into the Manchester Regiment in April, 1917, and embarked for France in June, 1917. Killed at Passchendaele, 9.10.1917, aged 19 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated on the TYNE COT MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
