The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

UMPLEBY, GEORGE E. Private. No 68378. 186th Company, Machine Gun Corps. Born Shepley. Son of Edward Wright and Mary Umpleby. Husband of Mabel Umpleby, Lea Head, Shepley. Employed as a weaver at Messrs Armitage's Mill, The Knowle, Shepley. Died in Iran on 20.11.1918, aged 31 years. Buried TEHRAN WAR CEMETERY. Grave location:- Plot 4, Row B, Grave 2.
