Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

CHILD, GEORGE. Corporal. No 17554. 10th Battalion The Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). Son of James and Ellen Child of Cliffe, Wooldale, Holmfirth; husband of Harriet Maria Child, 4 Spring Row, Keighley Road, Colne. On leaving school was employed in the shop of Mrs Brook, Victoria Street, Holmfirth. Was then employed by the Netherthong Cooperative Society, until he left to take up a position with the Colne Cooperative Society. At the time of enlistment, was employed as a tram conductor on the Colne tramways. Enlisted 1.1.1915. Trained in Scotland and embarked for France on 10.10.1916. Killed in action, 1.8.1917, aged 30 years. Has no known grave. Commemorated on the MENIN GATE MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
