Following the donation of land in 1912 by Sam Shaw, a Sunday School for the nearby Methodist chapel was built between 1931 and 1932. As the costs of maintaining the chapel (built circa 1836) increased, a decision was made in 1971 to refurbish the Sunday School into the current Gatehead Methodist Church. The former chapel was sold for £500 and is now a private residence.[1][2]
The final service at Gatehead Methodist Church was held in October 2021.
