The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

TOWNEND, FRANK. Guardsman. No 20375. Coldstream Guards. Born 71 Thornhill Road, Longwood, Huddersfield, 10.1.1888. Son of the late Andrew and Betsy Ellen Townend, 1 Rock Street, Spark Hall, Longwood. Educated at Longwood National School. Employed as a woollen spinner. Husband of Sarah H. Townend, 10 Lamb Hall Road, Longwood. Enlisted 20.11.1916. Killed in action, 30.11.1917, during the Battle of Cambrai. Has no known grave. Commemorated CAMBRAI MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
