The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:
- MIDDLETON, ELVEY. Private. No 19034. 9th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. Born Marsh, Huddersfield. Son of Mr and Mrs R. Middleton of Bowling, Bradford, and formerly of 6 Cecil Street, Springwood, Huddersfield. Employed by Mr Whitehead, butcher, of Birkby. Killed in action on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, 1.7.1916. Buried GORDON DUMP CEMETERY. Grave location:- Plot 3, Row R, Grave 7.
