Elliott Hallas and Sons, Limited

Elliott Hallas & Sons were tanners, curriers and leather factors based in Huddersfield. It became a private limited company in 1910.

The company was formed by Elliott Hallas (c.1836-1914) who began a leather business in Holmfirth in 1862[1] before relocating to New Street, Huddersfield, in 1876. Hallas was elected to the town council in 1899 and became an Alderman in 1910 but retired in 1912 due to ill health.[2]

The company also opened a shoe shop on John William Street as well as a tannery on Southgate, Huddersfield.

His son George Boothroyd Hallas (1871-1930) established the business of Shaw & Hallas Ltd. in 1914, having married Emily Jane Shaw in 1895.
