History

E. Hellewell Carter & Co., Ltd., were mill furnishers, asbestos merchants, and India rubber manufacturers, with offices at 2 Buxton Road and 10 Albion Street, Huddersfield.

The firm is believed to have been established by Edwin Carter (c.1840-1915)[1], who named his son Edwin Hellewell Carter (1886-1939).[2] A founding partner appears to have been David Smith, with the partnership being dissolved in on 14 April 1877.[3]

By the time of the 1937 Directory, the firm was listed only at Albion Street, whilst W. H. Chapman ("weatherproofs and rubberware") was trading at 2 Buxton Road.

The firm went into liquidation in August 1960.[4]
