Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SHAW, DOUGLAS. Driver. NoL/25805. 'C' (Holme Valley) Battery, 168th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. Born Shepley. Son of Walter and Elizabeth Shaw, of 'Heymoor', Abbey Road, Shepley. Employed as a weaver by Messrs Firth Brothers, New Mills, Shepley, where his father was a foreman spinner. Attended the Shelley Primitive Methodist Chapel and School. Played both football and cricket with the Shelley Cricket and Football club. Enlisted 2.5.1915. Killed instantly on Sunday, 30.6.1916, aged 22. (Both his horses were shot from under him). Buried BOUZINCOURT COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION. Grave location:- Plot 2, Row C, Grave 21.
