Dawson's Buildings in Milnsbridge is mentioned in several newspaper articles but not marked on the O.S. maps nor mentioned in the census returns.

The newspaper references suggest that Dawson's Buildings may have been the collective name for the properties around Faraday Square and the nearby Hofmann Cottages (likely named after the German chemist Professor August Wilhelm von Hofmann)[1]. As both are named after scientists, this perhaps suggests that houses were built by chemical manufacturer Dan Dawson of Milnsbridge whose chemical works were situated on the opposite side of the river.

  1. Hofmann had links to the chemical industry in Huddersfield. See also Wikipedia: August Wilhelm von Hofmann
