D. Battye & Son, Limited

D. Battye & Son Ltd. were oil refiners, extractors and merchants.

History

The firm was established in 1875[1] by tallow chandler Daniel Battye.[2]

A letterhead dated 1907 gave their office address as Cloth Hall Street, Huddersfield, with the oil works based at Crosland Moor Bottom. It also noted the company as:

  • manufacturers of boiler composition, wheel grease, etc
  • tallow melters & refiners

By 1930, the company had offices on Henry Street where they advertised themselves as the "sole manufactures of Batoyle Motor Oils".[3]

Batoyle Holdings PLC of Colne Vale Road, Milnsbridge, was registered in September 1989 and later became part of Batoyle Freedom Group.[4]

The company was acquired by lubricant manufacturer Fuchs UK in 2014.[1]
