Cyril Frank Butler (1894-1918)

Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

BUTLER, CYRIL FRANK. 2nd Lieutenant. 112th Brigade Royal Field Artillery. Born Settle 19.8.1894. Son of Mr and Mrs Butler, 'Paragon Hotel', Westgate, Huddersfield. Educated at Skipton Grammar School, where he was schools champion for 1910, 1913 and 1914. Went to Ripon and St. John College, York, where he was a student. Played for Skipton Rugby Union Club and later for York, Huddersfield and Halifax Northern Union clubs at three-quarter back. He was also a keen runner and fine athlete. Enlisted, 4.1.1916, in the Royal Horse Artillery as a Gunner (No 116384). Died of wounds near Rheims, 8.6.1918. Buried MARFAUX BRITISH CEMETERY. Grave location:- Plot 7, Row D, Grave 1.
