Cottage Retreat, Manchester New Road, Crosland Moor

This page is a bare-bones entry for a location which appears on an historic Ordnance Survey map. More detailed information may eventually be added...

  • appears on maps: 1851 [#228]
  • location: Manchester New Road (now Manchester Road), Crosland Moor
  • category: property (later terraced Row)

Shown as a single cottage on the 1851 map, it had been partitioned into two properties by the late 1880s. A surviving date stone situated between numbers 393 and 399 Manchester Road suggests that Cottage Retreat was built in 1821 and demolished in 1909, after which it was replaced by the extant terraced row. Records from the early 1900s suggest that the terraced row was also called "Cottage Retreat".
