Synopsis

A history of Honley families who lived and worked in the valley of the Lud Dyke on the eastern slopes of the Holme Valley.

As you look across the Holme Valley from the centre of Honley the green fields on the opposite slopes give the impression of a tranquil pastoral are. However, this was not always the case as the latest village history book from Honley Civic Society reveals. Coal mining and woollen mills dominated the neat valley of the Lud Dyke for most of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Colliers and Clothiers, is an introduction to the people who lived and worked from Hall Ing to Grove Mill. With fascinating background details of the life and times of the mills, dyeworks and coal mines, their owners and their families. 120 pages and around 150 illustrations, many never published before, bring the story of Honley people to life.
