Charles Wild (c.1870-1950)

Charles Wild was a wheelwright and carriage builder.

Biography

He was born in Mirfield, the son of domestic gardener Ambrose Wild and his wife Emma (née Marshall).

He married Annie Hardy, the daughter of engineer Henry Hardy, on 22 September 1894 at St. Mark's Church, Huddersfield. At the time, he was working as a weaver and living at the Shore, Aspley.

The couple of had four known children:

  • Dorothy Wild (1895-1982)[1]
  • Harry Wild (1897-1962)[2]
  • Frank Wild (1899-1983)[3]
  • Kathleen Wild (1905-?)[4]

By 1901, he was working as a wheelwright and residing on Norman Road, Huddersfield. By 1911, the family had moved to 14 Beaumont Street.

An letterhead dated 1925 named his as a "carriage builder, wheelwright, smith, &c." with "every description of vans, carts, waggons, &c., built to order".

Annie Wild died in 1949 aged 80.

Charles Wild of 10 Arnold Avenue, Birkby, died on 28 November 1950 aged 80, leaving an estate valued at £573 10s. 7d.

  3. Worked as a joiner, carpenter, and motor body builder. Died aged 84.
  4. Married Jack Thorp on 5 April 1931 at St. John's Church, Birkby.
