BAMFORTH FILMS
This page is part of a project to index the films produced by Bamforth and Co. Ltd of Holmfirth.

The following list was primarily compiled by conducting a systematic review of contemporary trade journals (inc. The Bioscope and Kinematograph Weekly) rather than using existing lists such as IMDB and the BFI Database, or the indexes compiled by film historian Denis Gifford. Differences between the latter lists are noted for each film.

The first productions were in partnership with Riley Brothers of Bradford as RAB Films.

The post-1913 productions were initially distributed by the Yorkshire Sales Agency and then by the Yorkshire Cine Co. Ltd. in October 1914. According to obituary articles, local cinema owner Harry Vernon of the Holmfirth Picturedrome commissioned some of the initial productions. A new production company, the Holmfirth Producing Co. Ltd., was registered in October 1915 but ultimately made only six further films and the final four were made in London rather than Holmfirth.

A Chronology of Bamforth films is also available which shows the order in which the films were released.

Research Notes

The following are alternative titles:

In some instances, such as Jessie and Finding His Counterpart, the actual release year is currently unknown.

A stock list advertised in the Kinematograph Weekly (17/May/1917) contains an entry for an otherwise unknown Bamforth comedy titled "Always Love Your Enemies" (476 feet).
