  • location: Meltham
  • category: area

Marked on the 1854 O.S. map but not on later maps, by which time the Bank Buildings had been erected.

Probably an area where bull baiting took place. At the 1852 Meltham Mechanics' Institute soiree held at the Oddfellows' Hall, Joseph Batley gave a short speech in which he stated that "some thirty or forty year ago" he had "seen large numbers [of people] assembled in the valley below [the hall] to witness a bull-bait".[1]
