Holmfirth: Place-Names and Settlement (1994) by George Redmonds:
Bradshaw now is a depopulated landscape, its decaying field walls and ruined buildings reminding us of the scattered community that lived here in the 1800s. The weather and acid soil made this a hostile terrain, and the reservoirs eventually had something to do with Bradshaw’s decline, but this was always marginal land. In the early 1300s Bradshaw was probably still a "broad shaw", an area of scrub and woodland at the western end of Austonley, its exact boundaries uncertain.
