Bradford Observer (09/Sep/1841) - Incorporation of Huddersfield

The following is a transcription of a historic newspaper article and may contain occasional errors.

Incorporation of Huddersfield.

The Committee for obtaining a Charter of Incorporation for this town met on Monday evening, to consider a communication made by order of her Majesty's Privy Council respecting petitions pro and con on this subject. The petition for a corporation is signed by 2,508 householders, and the petition against it by 181; but the latter contend that although they are so few, their amount of rates exceed the whole of the 2,508! If numbers and property rule the council, Huddersfield will be incorporated.
