Details

  • location: Royd Road, Meltham
  • status: does not exist
  • category: misc feature

Marked on the 1854 O.S. map as a bridge spanning Calf Close Dike on Royd Road, near its junction with Thick Hollins Road.

In 1855, concerns about the poor state of the nearby Thick Hollins Bridge led to that bridge being rebuilt and Thick Hollins Road realigned to straighten it. It seems likely this led to Blackfriars Bridge becoming redundant as the Royd Road junction was moved sufficiently westwards to the extent that it no longer crossed over Calf Close Dike.
