Beaumont Park Light Railway (1996)

The Beaumont Park Light Railway was an abandoned proposal by Penistone Line Partnership in 1996 to open a narrow gauge railway on the former route of the Meltham Branch Line through the lower section of Beaumont Park. The estimated cost was in the region of £1m and would have been mostly raised via a National Lottery funding bid.[1]

The plan was objected to in the local press by the managing director of the Kirklees Light Railway on the grounds that "there was not enough trade for both [light] railways and so both of them would fail".[2]
