Beaumont Park Light Railway (1996)
The Beaumont Park Light Railway was an abandoned proposal by Penistone Line Partnership in 1996 to open a narrow gauge railway on the former route of the Meltham Branch Line through the lower section of Beaumont Park. The estimated cost was in the region of £1m and would have been mostly raised via a National Lottery funding bid.
The plan was objected to in the local press by the managing director of the Kirklees Light Railway on the grounds that "there was not enough trade for both [light] railways and so both of them would fail".
