Details

  • location: Dean Head, Scammonden
  • status: still exists but now in different use
  • category: public house, beerhouse, inn, etc.

A fully-licensed public house, it lacked a running water supply and reportedly the high road at the rear of the property (leading to the nearby church) meant it suffered badly from damp. With a dwindling population of just 36 adults within half a mile, it was recommended for closure and compensation at the Brewster Sessions of 1914. The owners at the time were John Ainley & Sons Ltd.
