Holmfirth: Place-Names and Settlement (1994) by George Redmonds:
BANK HOUSE (Hepworth). The house on the ‘bank’ or slope (i.e. Cheesegate Nab). It is a common West Yorkshire place-name and individual houses are not always easy to identify. In this case, however, the property was in the tenancy of the Castles until 1684, passing from them to James Taylor among others. The Castles had acquired this land from Nicholas Hayward over one hundred years earlier.
