Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

CARTER, ARTHUR WILLIAM. Sergeant. No 1713. 1/5th Battalion Duke of Wellington's Regiment. Born Kirkburton. Son of Albert F. and Sarah Ann Carter, Prospect Cottages, Highburton, Kirkburton. Assisted his father in the family business of Messrs Henry Carter and Sons, edge toolmakers. Was secretary of the Kirkburton Conservative Club. Enlisted in August, 1914, and embarked for France in April, 1915. On completing his period of service he was given a months leave and returned to France on 30.6.1916. Killed in action at the Battle of the Somme, 12.7.1916, aged 28 years. Buried in CONNAUGHT CEMETERY, THIEPVAL. Grave location:- Plot 3, Row J, Grave 4.
