Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

TOYNE, ALFRED. Private. No 32144. 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment. Born Horncastle, Lincolnshire. Had lived in Slaithwaite for four years. Employed as a baker by the Slaithwaite Equitable Industrial Society Limited. Attended St. James's Church, Slaithwaite. Enlisted May 1916. Embarked for France at the end of August, 1916. Killed by a sniper on 25.10.1916, during the Battle of the Somme. Has no known grave. Commemorated THIEPVAL MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.
