Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922

The following extract is from Huddersfield's Roll of Honour: 1914-1922 (2014) by J. Margaret Stansfield:

SHAW, ALFRED. Private. No 2023. 11th Battalion Australian Imperial Force. Born Croydon. Son of Mr John Shaw, 36 George Street, Milnsbridge. Educated St. Thomas's School, Huddersfield. Employed by Dempsters, boiler-makers, of Manchester. Was a member of the Milnsbridge County Working Men's Club. Single. Emigrated to Australia in 1909. Lived Worsley Bush, Perth, Western Australia. Embarked at Melbourne on HMAT Thermistodes on October 22nd, 1914. Enlisted 28.1.1915. Went to Egypt before going to the Dardenelles, where he was killed on 1.8.1915, aged 46 years. Buried SHELL GREEN CEMETERY, GALLIPOLI. Grave location:- Plot 2, Row G, Grave 28.
