July

4th — Whilst dismantling a Honley Gas Company gasometer, a spark ignites the remaining gas and four men are killed after being reportedly hurled 50 feet into the air by the explosion: Thomas Carter (25) of Elland, John Makin (27) of Elland, Ben Pearson (37) of Milnsbridge, and Joe Binns (27) of Brandy Hall Farm, Greetland.
