The following events took place in 1880...
- 20th — The public notice announcing the ceremonial cutting of the first sod of earth for Beaumont Park is released by Town Clerk Joseph Batley.
- 29th — The ceremonial cutting of the first sod of earth and the formal handover over Dungeon Wood from H.F. Beaumont to the Huddersfield Corporation takes place. Work now begins in earnest to create Beaumont Park.
- 26th — A performance of selections from Handel's "Messiah" takes places from 7:15am in Beaumont Park to raise funds for Huddersfield Infirmary.
