March
- 2nd — The first ever meeting of the Huddersfield Literary and Scientific Society takes place.
- 5th — The Holmfirth Choral Society hold a "grand miscellaneous concert" at Holmfirth Town Hall to raise money for their conductor, Joe Perkin.
June
- 22nd — The Meltham Mills Infant School, funded by Charles Brook, is formally opened with a public tea party. Around 500 people attend.
November
- 23rd — 12 people killed and a large section of Upper Aspley Mill is destroyed in a boiler explosion at around 2:10pm.
