October
- 9th — The foundation stone of the Huddersfield Railway Station is laid by Earl Fitzwilliam. The day is declared a public holiday, with church bells ringing from dawn to dusk.
December
- The Huddersfield Female Educational Institute is established. The first meetings are held above "Mr. Heap's workshop in Westgate".
