The following events took place in 1822...


  • A heavy storm brings a sudden downpour of rain to the hills above Holmfirth and Meltham, causing the River Holme and Mag Brook to flood. At Steps (Magdale), where the two join, "a breast of water from seven to nine feet high rushed down the valley and spread desolation along its course".[1]
