January

  • The eldest son of carpenter Joseph Hawkyard of Huddersfield was repairing his cart which had broken down "on the turnpike road at Back Green" when it collapsed on him and killed him instantly.

February

  • Edward Mundell the Elder, mercer of Huddersfield, declared bankrupt.

June

  • A meeting is held in Huddersfield to "consider the propriety of applying to Parliament" to make a canal from Huddersfield to join the Ashton Canal. It is reported that £118,000 was subscribed at the meeting, with no individual permitted to subscribe more than £500 each.

July

  • Daniel Crosland, of Deadmanstone near Huddersfield, marries Miss Bleasdall of Blackburn, Lancashire.
