February

  • Matthew Hirst, clothier of Upperthong, declared bankrupt.

August

  • Whilst out on the moors, the gun bellowing to Mr. Newton of Holmfirth, gamekeeper to the Duke of Leeds, accidentally misfires and kills a young man.

November

  • Thomas Varley, merchant of Lingards, declared bankrupt.

December

  • Sir John Lister Kaye of Denby Grange, near Huddersfield, found dead.
