  • Joshua Hanson of Huddersfield undertakes a wager of one guinea to run from the George Inn to Halifax Cross and back again in under two hours and 15 minutes. He manages the feat with 90 seconds to spare.

  • John Holt, timber merchant of Huddersfield, declared bankrupt.
