Muslims and Mosques in West Yorkshire
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available. Please feel free to add or update with any additional information. |
The first Mosques used by the Muslim communities in West Yorkshire were converted houses, and source material can be difficult to trace. Local newspapers (held at the local studies libraries) make a good starting point. Once a specific address has been obtained, it is possible to search through building control plans and local planning authority committee minutes for relevant material.
Some community archive material is also available on the NowThen site.
