Hemsworth Rural District Council met for the first time on 3 January 1895 - in the boardroom of the Hemsworth Union Workhouse - having taken over the responsibilities of the Hemsworth Rural Sanitary Authority whose last meeting was held on 27 December 1894. Hemsworth Rural District Council was abolished under the provisions of the Local Government Act, 1972.
