Help:Tables
Text on Off The Record can be arranged using tables. Tables provide a way of easily organising and structuring a page, for example when adding a long list of references.
Example of standard table
The following code:
{| class="wikitable" border=1 |+ caption !heading 1 !heading 2 |- |row 1 column 1 |row 1 column 2 |- |row 2 column 1 |row 2 column 2 |}
produces this table:
heading 1 | heading 2 |
---|---|
row 1 column 1 | row 1 column 2 |
row 2 column 1 | row 2 column 2 |
The above example in detail
The table itself is identified by the following code, at the beginning:
{| class="wikitable" border=1
And at the end:
|}
Each different element of the table should be put on its own line.
The caption of the table is defined by a pipe and then a plus sign:
|+
Column headings are identified by starting the line with an exclamation mark:
!
The width of columns can be defined by a percentage:
! 70%|Heading
New rows start with a pipe and a hyphen:
|-
New cells start with a pipe on a new line :
|
Borderless table
To make a table with no borders, change the class at the beginning to "nobordertable":
{| class=" nobordertable"
So
{| class=" nobordertable" |- | row 1 | row 2 |- | row 3 | row 4 |}
produces this table:
row 1 | row 2 |
row 3 | row 4 |
