Dalton Old Folks Treat Committee
The following source list was originally available only on paper in one of the West Yorkshire Archive Service offices. It may have been compiled many years ago and could be out of date. It was designed to act as a signpost to records of interest on a particular historical subject, but may relate only to one West Yorkshire district, or be an incomplete list of sources available. Moldgreen and Dalton Old Folks Gathering was established in 1907. It later came to be called Dalton Old Folks Party and then Dalton Old Folks Treat. An annual tea party was provided for the older residents of Dalton Ward in Huddersfield. The last Treat was held in October 1998. In 1999 the Treat Committee decided to disband itself. This was due to a lack of volunteers to go round Dalton house-to-house collecting funds to pay for the Treat. By 1998 the volunteers available were unable to cover the whole of the Dalton area. This by then had been the case for a number of years. The numbers who attended the Treat were also gradually declining, partly because the Committee and its volunteers were no longer able to tell who was eligible to attend, it seems the lack of door-to-door collectors had also led to a reduction in knowledge of who should be invited to Treats. In 1999 the officers and Committee all wished to resign feeling that there was no future in trying to carry on providing the Treat and no-one was available to replace them. The organisation therefore wound up in 1999 and its remaining funds were distributed among local charities.
Records for this Committee are held at WYAS Kirklees, collection reference:KC996.
