A preaching centre in Huddersfield Wesleyan Circuit existed at Cowcliffe in 1819 and services were held in cottages. A Sunday School was established in 1836 with a chapel built in South Cross Road c1836. The Sunday School was enlarged in 1885 and was still in existence in 2000.
