Established by a number of members who seceded from Lindley Wesleyan Methodist Church to join New Connexion in 1797.

At first both groups used the chapel in East Street on alternate Sundays, but this arrangement eventually broke down. New Connexion then used the upper room of Mr Moore's house in Lidget Fold for meetings; this room became known as "t'long bawk". The meetings later moved to a room over a blacksmith's smithy in Lidget Street.

In 1803 a Sunday School was established and a chapel was built in Lidget Street in 1812 and opened in 1813; the Sunday School occupied the back part of the building. The chapel was enlarged in 1825 and 1832.

The Sunday School used Lindley Mechanics Hall in Lidget Street from 1858-1874.

A new chapel was built further south along Lidget Street between 1864-1866; the old chapel building was demolished and the masonry used to build a new Sunday School across the road from the new chapel in 1873-1874.

In 1960 the church amalgamated with Lindley Wesley and Lindley Thorncliffe churches to form Lindley Methodist Church using premises in East Street.

The chapel in Lidget Street then closed and was demolished in 1962.

The Sunday School in Lidget Street was used until 1972.

Records relating to this church are held at the West Yorkshire Archive Service: Kirklees office under the reference number WYK84, KC503.
