Mr. Pongo
Illustration from the London Illustrated News (18/Aug/1877) of "Pongo", the first live gorilla to be exhibited in Europe.
Following his appearance at the Royal Aquarium, Westminster, he was later exhibited at the 1877 Honley Feast. Sadly, the young gorilla died a few weeks later.
