Between April and October 1952, the Huddersfield Examiner published a series of 26 pen and ink drawings by Brighouse artist Albert T. Pile in the weekend edition of the newspaper.

The Way of the Wains

Waingate, Berry Brow, preserves a link with old-time traffic. For Waingate was the "way of the wagon" ("wain"). It still has about it an atmosphere of a more leisurely age, but wains and their teams have given way to lorries and motor-cars.
