FOREWORD
by
ALDERMAN JOHN ARMITAGE, J.P.
Mayor of Huddersfield, 1954-55
THE demand for the Corporation of Huddersfield handbook has made a second edition essential.
The object of this handbook is to tell the story of Huddersfield from early days to modern times and although it is not the full story, for that would require a much larger volume, it is a proud record, told very interestingly, of municipal progress and industrial achievement.
The progressive spirit has always characterised those engaged in the civic administration of Huddersfield and the management of its industries. Citizens of the town will read this handbook with justifiable pride and others will learn from these pages something of the history, the municipal development, the social activities and the importance of the industries of an important County Borough.
