HER MAJESTY’S
COLDSTREAM REGIMENT OF FOOT GUARDS
The Coldstream Guards were formed in 1650, and in 1660 under command of General Monck they marched South from the Town of Coldstream-on-Tweed to London to maintain order and eventually to restore King Charles II to the Throne.
Since then the Regiment has taken part in almost every major campaign in which Britain has been involved seeing active service from the Baltic to South Africa and from North America to China. At the present there are two Battalions, one doing Guard duties at Windsor and the other on security duties in Kenya and the Middle East.
Since 1660, when the Regiment marched through Northern England on their way to London, the Coldstream Guards have remained a largely North Country Regiment. This is a tradition that has helped to maintain our motto of “Second to None” and is one that we are anxious should continue.
If you are interested in serving in the Coldstream Guards please either tear off the bottom of this programme and post it to the address given and we will send you any information you require or visit Major J. H. Elvin, Army Information Office, 26, Kirkgate, Huddersfield.
